ACE FAME Saturday Program

9th and 11th grade African American male students will convene on Saturdays. Students will:

Work to build their social and emotional skills, improve their health and wellness habits, advance their STEM content knowledge, receive support with college and career planning, academic coursework, and collaborate with adult male leaders in the community.

ACE has selected these two grade groupings based on this rationale:

9th Grade - This is a key year in the success of a high school student, especially for African American male students. In 2019, only 64% of African American SPS students passed all of their courses. Students that fail courses during their freshman year are more likely to dropout of school and not complete their high school education by receiving a diploma. We will provide students with study skills, STEM activities, social and emotional skill building, health and wellness habits, support them with developing a community project, and connect them with local African American community leadership.

11th Grade - African American males students are often not provided with the preparation needed to be successful beyond high school. This group is among the highest unemployed and for those that do go on to a postsecondary education, they often dropout at a much higher rate. We will provide students with study skills, STEM activities, college and career exploration, social and emotional skill building, good health and wellness habits, support them with developing a community project, connect them with local African American community leadership, build a resume, apply to colleges and universities, and scholarship exploration.
